Tru Plumbing and Gas to Host Trade Skills Competition in Partnership with Okaloosa CTE
As the cost of college continues to rise, more students are considering alternative options. Meanwhile, the construction industry has a shortage of over 500,000 qualified workers.
At Tru Plumbing and Gas, we’re doing our part to support the next generation of students in the trades. In partnership with Okaloosa County Career and Technical Education, we’re hosting a skilled trade competition at Trufest in Fort Walton Beach, this Saturday, October 26th, 12:00 pm at Fort Walton Beach Landing Park.
Students from Crestview, Fort Walton Beach, and Choctawhatchee High Schools will team up and compete to tackle a plumbing rough-in for a laundry room. This live competition will give these students a chance to showcase their real-world skills for a shot at prizes sponsored by Tru Plumbing and Gas, plus a memorial trophy provided by Okaloosa County CTE.
“As someone who has spent the better part of my life in plumbing, I know the satisfaction that comes with working in the trades,” said Tru Plumbing and Gas founder Cody Kearns. “It’s vital that we help support and motivate the next generation of students interested in this valuable career path.”
Okaloosa County’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offers middle and high school students the opportunity to earn industry certifications, high school, and college credits while learning valuable skills in key industries with a future need for skilled workers.
Tru Plumbing and Gas specializes in prompt, professional, 24/7 plumbing and gas line services to the greater Okaloosa and Walton county area. The company is locally owned and operated by Cody Kearns, a master plumber with over 18 years of experience in the industry.
Trufest is Tru Plumbing and Gas’s annual festival held to thank the local community for its support, hosted in collaboration with Wildflower Boutique. Trufest features food trucks, a vendor fair of local businesses, and exciting prize giveaways. This year’s event takes place between 12-6 pm on October 26th at Fort Walton Beach Landing Park.
