Common plumbing repairs
Leaky Faucets and Pipes
Leaky faucets aren’t just annoying. They can lead to significant water wastage, which drives up water bills. Even a small leak can add up to hundreds of gallons per year of water wasted.
There are many potential reasons for a leaky faucet. Broken or deteriorated washers, o-rings, and valve seats are some of the most common causes. It is also possible that a cartridge in your faucet is damaged.
If you’d like to get to the bottom of what’s causing your problem, call Tru Plumbing and Gas. Our friendly technicians can get your leaking faucet back in working order.
Toilet clogs and repairs
A blocked or clogged toilet is usually caused by flushing excessive toilet paper, non-flushable items, or accumulated waste. While a plunger might clear simple clogs, persistent or recurring blockages often require the attention of a professional plumber.
Hissing toilet
If your toilet is hissing, this may mean there’s a problem with your toilet’s float mechanism or its fill valve. These problems can lead to significant water wastage and expense.
Toilet won’t stop running
A constantly running toilet has a few potential causes. It could be a flapper that isn’t sealing well, a chain that is long or tangled, or problems with the toilet tank’s float mechanism. Our plumbing technicians can find out the root cause and quickly fix these issues.
Toilet moves around
Does your toilet rock or move when you sit on it? This is a sign that your wax ring may be deteriorating, your flange or flange bolts may be broken, or your floor is sagging. These problems shouldn’t be taken lightly–a loose connection could lead to serious water damage if it’s not addressed promptly.

Water heater repair and installation
Hot water is a necessity for showers, dishwashing, and laundry. If your hot water runs out frequently or completely, it may be time to repair your water heater. At Tru Plumbing and Gas, we are fully equipped to service all types of water heaters–from gas to electric and from tanked to tankless.
Water heaters and common problems:
No hot water
Potential reasons for a lack of hot water can be a malfunctioning heating element or a failing gas thermocouple.
If you have an electric water heater, check to see if its breaker has tripped. If it has, reset the breaker by switching it to the OFF position and then back to the ON position. If that doesn’t solve the problem, your heating element may need to be replaced by a professional.
For gas water heaters, check to ensure that the pilot light is on. If water is still not heating, call our team to check your water heater for problems.
Inadequate hot water
This could be a sign that your thermostat or heating element isn’t working properly. Otherwise, it is possible that your demand for hot water is exceeding the capacity of your water heater. We can help you by installing a water heater with a larger tank, or even a tankless water heater so that your hot water never runs out.
Water temperature fluctuates
Sudden changes in the water temperature can be caused by buildup in your tank or problems with your mixer valve. Regular maintenance can prevent these issues. Call us today to schedule a water heater flush, and ask about our memberships which include preventative maintenance that makes your life easier!
Water heater is leaking
If you see any signs of water pooling around your water heater, don’t hesitate to call a plumber immediately to prevent water damage. Leaks can be caused by a failing tank or loose connections and faulty pressure relief valves.
Water heater is making weird noises
Noises that sound like cracking, rumbling, or popping are often caused by buildup of sediment. This buildup can affect the heating elements. We recommend flushing your water heater annually to prevent these problems. Call us today to schedule your water heater flush.
Rusty water or rotten egg smell
If your hot water smells like rotten eggs or looks rusty, this could indicate corrosion inside your tank. We can replace corroded parts or the anode rod to address this problem. On the other hand, if all your water is smelly or rusty looking, this can be addressed with a whole home water filter.

Clogs and drain cleaning:
Blocked sewer line
If water is backing up in multiple places in your home–like your shower, kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and your toilet–chances are, your main sewer line is clogged. Sewer drain lines are buried deep underground and typically can’t be cleaned without professional help. Our experienced team can help you get you clear the clog and get your sewer line draining correctly.
Blocked shower and tub drains
Over time, hair, grease, dirt, and soap can build up and bind together in your shower or tub drain. This can lead to standing shower water that drains slowly or not at all. We can help you get to the root of the cause and clear your shower or tub drain.
Is it OK to use drain cleaners to clear my shower drain clog?
Products like Drano can sometimes help clear a shower or tub clog when your water is draining slowly. However, there are a few reasons we recommend not to use them.
- Drain cleaning chemicals are caustic and corrosive, which can cause damage to your pipes.
- Drain cleaner doesn’t work when it is diluted. When your shower or tub is full of standing water and you add drain cleaner, this dilutes the chemicals which makes them ineffective. It’s important to wait until the water has completely drained before applying the product, and then be patient giving the drain cleaner time to clear the clog.
- If you use a drain cleaner with standing water, your plumber may not be able to access the drain pipe without cutting the line open. This can make the drain clearing process more expensive and time consuming.
It’s important to remember that drain cleaners can damage skin and eyes, so please inform your plumber if you have used a drain cleaner before they perform work on your drain line.
Clogged floor drains
Clogged floor drains can have many causes, including buildup of dirt, oil, grease, pet hair, and more. A blocked floor drain can also be the first sign of a sewer line clogging in your house, as the drain at the lowest point in your home will be the first to overflow. Our friendly and experienced team of plumbing technicians can help you clear your floor drain and get it flowing smoothly again.
Clogged bathroom sink drain
Bathroom sinks deal with some dirty stuff. If yours isn’t draining, it may be due to a buildup of soap, grime, and hair.
How to clear a sink clog by yourself
There’s a safe, natural, and old school way to clear your sink clog–and it’s a throwback to when you made volcanos in middle school. You can use vinegar and baking soda just like a science fair project. Here’s how:
- Start by pouring 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain.
- Next, slowly pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into the drain.
- Quickly use the drain plug or a rag to seal the drain closed. This will increase the effectiveness of the mixture and keep the foam working inside the pipe, instead of turning your drain into a volcano.
- Let the mixture sit for about half an hour.
- Boil a pot of water and pour it slowly into the drain.
If this doesn’t clear your sink clog, you can also try using a manual plumbing snake from a store. If neither of these solutions works, it’s best to call a plumber. Our professional plumbing technicians will be happy to help you clear your sink drain clog.
Clogged kitchen sink drain
Over time, kitchen sinks can clog up with grease, soap, and scraps of food. If you are unable to get your sink flowing on your own, it may be time to call a professional plumber. We are able to help most of our customers who have sink clogs with same day service. Just call us today!
Signs your drains need to be cleaned:
- Standing water
- foul odor
- drains are backed up
- flies are gathering
- Drains are making gurgling sounds
- multiple drains clogged
